La Sapata Aligoté — A Fresh Find from the Danube

We’re always on the lookout for bottles that surprise us — wines with a bit of character, something a little different, but still totally drinkable. Enter: La Sapata Aligoté.

This crisp white from Romania is bright, refreshing, and seriously underrated. And if you’ve never had Romanian wine before, consider this your invitation.

So, what’s Aligoté?

Aligoté is a grape usually found in Burgundy, playing second fiddle to Chardonnay. But in the hands of La Sapata, grown on sandy soils along the Danube Delta, it takes on a whole new energy — fresh, wild, and quietly complex.

Expect crisp citrus notes, a bit of green apple, a nice mineral edge, and just a whisper of salinity. No oak, no fuss — just clean, expressive wine that begs to be opened with food.

Why we love it at Bodega

Because it works with just about everything.

It’s the kind of wine you want when you're sharing salty olives, grilled prawns, or creamy mushroom toasts. It's a match for seafood, fresh cheeses, and those dishes that are light but full of flavour. It even holds up against some of the spicier plates on our menu without trying too hard.

A little bit about the winery

La Sapata is all about minimal intervention — organic vineyards, native yeast, no additives. They're farming in harmony with the land and letting the grape speak for itself. It’s winemaking that feels honest, and that’s something we’re always happy to pour.

Final word?

It’s bright, it’s clean, it’s a little off the beaten path — and that’s exactly why it belongs on our list. Next time you’re in, ask for a glass. We think you’ll get it after the first sip.
